What You Need to Get Started

To make the most of these lessons, you’ll need a few essential tools:

  • A Computer – A Mac or PC with sufficient processing power for music production.

  • A Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) – You can use any DAW, but Reaper is a great free option if you don’t have one yet. Other recommended DAWs include Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Studio One and Cubase.

  • A MIDI Keyboard – While not mandatory, having a MIDI controller will help you play and input notes more efficiently.

  • Virtual Instruments & Sample Libraries – Basic orchestral libraries are useful for creating professional-sounding scores, many of them are free or with a yearly rate.

  • Headphones or Studio Monitors – Good-quality headphones or speakers are essential for accurate sound reproduction and mixing.

  • An Audio Interface – This device connects your headphones or speakers to your computer with better audio quality and lower latency.

  • Basic Knowledge of Music Theory – While you don’t need to be an expert, understanding scales, chords, and harmony will help you compose more effectively, if you don’t know this check out also my composition lessons.
